Response to Editorial #4
What a waste of human life! Franklin needs to stop trying to use roundabout ways to get to Hitler. How would attacking Italy do anything but stop Mussolini from creating a “new Roman Empire.” Franklin, Winston, THINK! You are wasting lives in a campaign that neither of you will win. Neither of you are truly ready for desert warfare, Britain might do better, but when has the USA ever fought in a desert such as Egypt or the Sahara desert? When the time comes Stalin might be right, attack through Normandy. Destroying the Atlantic wall would be risky, and it may risk lives, but it would end the war quite quick—for better or ill. Still, I can not say much for it seem the Soviet Union will be a deciding factor in this war, if they fall Germany will have almost limitless resources in China! How horrid to think that the Axis powers could stretch from France to Japan! The Allies must attack Hitler head on. Not only might it work, but it will surprise him—so far the Allies have done nothing but go around the main threat, Hitler! So, no, they are wrong to attack through Africa.
